Joseph H. Pilates was born in Germany in 1880, acquiring experience in circus performing, boxing, and eventually evolved into a revolutionary health and fitness visionary who beginning in WW1 developed a series of controlled movements that provided the foundation for what is now known as Pilates, though Mr. Pilates first called it Contrology.
STRONG CENTER CONTROLOGY seeks to continue and expand the practices of Mr. Pilates now and in the future; vigorous, flowing movements from a strong center controlled by your mind and body.
THE SIX PRINCIPLES OF CONTROLOGY:
- CENTER
- CONTROL
- CONCENTRATION
- PRECISION
- FLOW
- BREATH
FROM YOUR STRONG CENTER, YOU CONCENTRATE ON YOUR CONTROLLED PRECISE MOVEMENTS, BREATHING CORRECTLY, AND FLOWING THROUGH THE EXERCISES FORMING YOUR WORKOUT.
Another term for your strong center is the “powerhouse.” The powerhouse is described as your abdominals, hips, inner thighs, buttocks and lower back muscles. All movement in Contrology begins from the powerhouse, and its the powerhouse that holds the torso in what we call the “frame” of the body.
The “frame” is the square that allign your shoulders and hips both vertically and horizontally.
The “concentration” goals of the work includes keeping the lines framing the hips and shoulders alligned and true as you move through the ordered exercises which comprise your workout.
AND IT WORKS!!!
